Upward Bound programs provide high school students with fundamental support for college success. These programs, often held during the summer on college campuses, expose students to college environments and classes. Upward Bound approached us with challenges: they needed an efficient way to track students on campus and manage class schedules and grades. Previously, they relied on cumbersome spreadsheets and sign-in/sign-out sheets.

As a custom software development company, Antrim Creek built Yubie to address these needs. Yubie is a custom Ruby on Rails web application. It allows authorized staff members to check students in and out of the program from any device, verify authorized pickups, and note student destinations (home, work study, etc.). Staff can access real-time views of all students currently checked in and their last known statuses (class attendance, activities, dorm).

Yubie provides a comprehensive student record, including photos, schedules, contact information, guardian contacts, grades, medical notes, and incident reports. This ensures Upward Bound programs have detailed records for each student during a session.

Course instructors can quickly take attendance, view student statuses, and notify administrators if a student is absent but checked into the program. Instructors can also enter midterm and final grades. Administrators can easily print class schedules for students on the first day of the session.

As part of this product development, we also developed the Yubie name, branding, and website design.

Yubie has transformed Upward Bound programs by enabling staff to efficiently track student statuses and focus more on preparing students for college. The real-time oversight provided to administrators has significantly improved these programs.
